Private Commissions
Dinnerware and cutlery made to your brief: original artwork, a family monogram, a glaze of your own or a new shape. A chest made for your home can be part of it.

Who a commission suits
Households with something particular in mind, who want it made properly.
For most households, a Signature Edition or a Personally Composed Collection is the better route. A private commission suits you when the idea is your own: a mark, a colour, a shape or a size our catalogue does not hold.
It takes longer and costs more, because it begins with design and a physical sample. Every request is reviewed by our design team. Some ideas need a sample before we can commit; if one is not feasible, we tell you why.

What a commission can be
Five ideas we would explore with you; each is a concept, and none has been made yet.
- A family monogram, drawn for you and applied to the rim of every plate.
- A glaze developed to sit with the walls of your dining room, approved on a sample first.
- Artwork taken from a nakshi kantha stitched by someone in your family.
- A collection for twelve, with serving pieces for a full Eid lunch.
- A chest built to fit a particular sideboard or alcove.

The design fee
Original work begins with a paid design phase, so we can draw before we promise.
The design fee is ৳10,000–25,000, depending on the scope of the brief.
We tell you plainly what is feasible, and what it may cost, before any fee is due.
- Design fee
- ৳10,000–25,000
- What it covers
- Design development, drawings and an agreed number of revisions.
- When it is due
- After the brief, before design work begins.
- Credit against your commission
- Whether the fee is credited against your commission is being confirmed, and will be written into your agreement.
From brief to presentation
Five stages, and nothing moves to the next until you have approved the last.

Brief
We meet by video, look at your room, your table and whatever inspired the idea, and agree what the design must do.
Design proposal
We send drawings, colour references and a feasibility review, with a quote for the commission.
Sample approval
Where the work is new, we make a physical sample. Nothing goes into production until you approve it.
Production
Your collection is made to the approved sample, with progress updates as it goes.
Presentation
The finished collection is inspected, packed in its chest and delivered to you.
A commission takes longer than an edition. Your design proposal gives its timeline. Private commissions are made within our limit of 500 sets a year.

Who owns the design
Agreed for each commission, and written into your proposal.
- Exclusivity
- Whether it covers the artwork, a colourway or the complete design.
- Photography
- Whether BHOJ may photograph or show the work.
- In writing
- Nothing is assumed until it is in your agreement.
Where a commission starts
From ৳3,00,000plus a design fee
The final price depends on the pieces, the artwork and the chest, and is set out in a bespoke quote once the design is approved.
Every request is reviewed by our design team. If something cannot be made well, we will say so.
Prices are in Bangladeshi taka. Your written proposal gives the exact price, with VAT and delivery stated.
